Exercises To Increase Vertical Leap - Top 4 Tips

There are sports enthusiasts who dream of dunking the ball high up in the air like Michael Jordan does, or doing that big leap in order to perfectly spike a volleyball, or even wish to achieve the highest stretch during a football match. You cannot deny it that a vertical leap does wonders for a game. A common way to do this is by doing squats in your local gym and using a squat rack. This specific squat is started off in an athletic position wherein you bend your knees as if you are about to take a seat. Be conscious enough to keep your back straight al throughout the exercise. Maintain your knee above your feet. Then, squat until your knees are about 90 degrees in angle. Hold this position for a little while before standing up again in your original position.



Another exercise to increase vertical leap is known as lunges. It builds the muscles around the quad region. In this exercise, you can use dumbbells if you like and to push you even further, or you can also start without one. Begin in a standing position. Then lunge forward making one of your knee positioned at a right (90 degrees) angle. Push yourself back in a standing position. Repeat the same steps but use your other knee this time. Just repeat the process. Again, take note to keep your back straight at all times.

To strengthen calf muscles and further improve vertical leap, try toe raises. To do this, hang your heels off a ledge. The stairs might be the ideal place to do this. And then, raise your body until you are on tiptoes. Lower yourself and then rise back up again. Do these steps repeatedly. It is as simple as that.

Plyometric exercises are a known effective ways to increase vertical leap. Example of such exercises are side box jumps (jump sideways over an obstacle), stair jumps (a series of both squats and jumps), box jumps (jump up and down a box, or some kind of a platform), and rope jumps (the longer you do this without stopping, the better the outcome).

Before starting off any of the exercises to increase vertical leap, make sure you do not forget to warm up. Stretch your muscles to prepare them for the coming workout. This also prevents muscle pains that may result after a tedious workout session.
